TV shoppers are getting a break from the specter of inflation. While the cost of many things we shop for has gone up since last year, that hasn't included televisions. According to recent U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Consumer Price Index data, TV prices dropped over 9% between 2022 and 2023. That’s good news if you're in the market to upgrade to a 4K Ultra high-definition TV or explore new technologies like OLED and QLED.

If you are searching for deals in December, the best time to shop for TVs is just about all month long, as retailers look to capture shoppers' dollars during holiday sales. While the prices may not be as low as Black Friday or Cyber Monday, these discounts are still likely to be close tothe lowest of the year. Check for the best discounts at retailers like Walmart and Best Buy, as well as online retailers like Amazon and Newegg.

Best Deals Going On Right Now

Weekly television sales are offered at Best Buy, so check that section to see what's currently on sale. In December, the best TV sales will run all month long, with discounts on advanced technologies like QLED and OLED that compete with that sale.

Plus, with the NFL Football season in full swing, expect various sales on TVs, such as up to $700 off 4K TVs and up to $1,000 of models of Samsung TVs.

This big-box retailer continually runs online sales and discounts on TVs, but the best December prices will be on holiday promotions. Expect to see discounts at Walmart on budget TVs from Vizio, TCL, and Hisense, as well as televisions with high-end technologies like QLED and OLED from LG, Samsung, and Sony.

Target will offer a number of deep discounts all throughout December and following the holidays. Target does not have as extensive an offering of TVs as some other retailers, however, Target RedCard holders can get an extra 5% discount when they use their card to pay for a new TV, which is an advantage.

Amazon will offer discounts all month as it competes with retailers like Walmart and Best Buy, which are running their holiday sales. You'll likely find low prices on its own line of Fire TVs from brands like Toshiba, Insignia, and Amazon-branded TVs.

And if you are in need of a cheap TV deal now, check out the selection Amazon has on TVs under $500.

Samsung sells its TVs at most major retailers and directly to the public on its website. The company runs various discounts each month on its line of TVs and also has an outlet section on its site that offers limited-quantity deals on a variety of products, including 4K TVs.

Check Samsung's site for holiday sales, which will be live all month long. The electronics company is offering up to $2,000 off Neo QLED TVs during a holiday sale, as well as up to $1,000 off The Frame TV sets, which use a special technology that makes the TV look like artwork when not in use.

In addition to being available at most large electronics retailers, LG products also are sold directly to consumers on the company's website.

LG normally has a holiday sale in December with discounts across its site, including TVs. These prices are often matched by its retail partners so if you have loyalty to a particular store, check to see if it is offering the same price and delivery options.

TV Deals – Tips To Save

Never pay full price for a TV. While the best discounts happen on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, retailers offer sale prices on TVs all year round. Keep these tips in mind when shopping for a new TV:

Know what you want before shopping

It’s best to have the size of TV you want in mind before you start comparing prices. The price range can jump up quite a bit between 65-inch and 75-inch TVs, for example.

Be on the lookout for built-in technology features

Consider HDR, Dolby Vision, or TVs enabled for Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. Also note what type of smart TV interface the TV uses, such as Roku or Google TV.

Read reviews on the TV you want

Search credible review sites using the model number of the TV to see which sites have put the TV through its paces. This can help you decide if a model is right for you.

The U.S. News 360 Reviews site offers reviews and ratings of the Best TVs, including smart TVs, gaming TVs, 4K TVs, and more.

Consider a technology upgrade

If it's within your budget, consider getting a better-than-standard display technology, such as Mini-LED, QLED, or OLED. Getting the best picture for your money may be a better strategy than getting a deal on a cheap TV.

Look for bundles

During holiday sale weekends, it’s not uncommon to see bundle deals that combine a TV with another item, such as a sound bar or wall mount, at no extra charge or at a discount.

Search for manufacturer or retailer sales

You can find these on their websites, as well as right here at U.S. News Deals. You can also check retailers’ weekly ads for current deals.

Check for student, military, and first responder discounts

Many retailers and TV manufacturers offer these types of discounts. Make sure they don’t override other promotions, though.

See if the retailer has a price-match policy

Will it price match the competition? Keep in mind that the TV brand and model number need to be an exact match.

Never pay for shipping

Most TV retailers and manufacturers offer free shipping. If you find a TV that includes a shipping fee, check to see if the same deal is available at another site that will ship it for free.

Use a credit card that offers cash back

Since this is likely to be a purchase of several hundred dollars or more, you can get a lot back. Make sure you pay off the balance before racking up any monthly interest charges.
